Detail

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 12.10 - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - Ubuntu 11.10

Summary:

HAProxy could be made to crash or run programs if it received specially crafted network traffic.

Software Description: - haproxy: fast and reliable load balancing reverse proxy

Details:

It was discovered that HAProxy incorrectly handled configurations where global.tune.bufsize was set to a value higher than the default. A remote attacker could use this issue to cause a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2012-2942)

Yves Lafon discovered that HAProxy incorrectly handled HTTP keywords in TCP inspection rules when HTTP keep-alive is enabled. A remote attacker could use this issue to cause a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2013-1912)

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions:

Ubuntu 12.10:
haproxy 1.4.18-0ubuntu2.1

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
haproxy 1.4.18-0ubuntu1.1

Ubuntu 11.10:
haproxy 1.4.15-1ubuntu0.1

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.

Description: Buffer overflow in HAProxy 1.4 through 1.4.22 and 1.5-dev through 1.5-dev17, when HTTP keep-alive is enabled, using HTTP keywords in TCP inspection rules, and running with rewrite rules that appends to requests, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted pipelined HTTP requests that prevent request realignment from occurring.
