Detail
Vulnerability Note VU#914785SoftArtisans XFile FileManager ActiveX control stack buffer overflowsOverviewThe SoftArtisans XFile FileManager ActiveX control contains several stack buffer overflows, which can allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.I. DescriptionSoftArtisans XFile is an ActiveX file transfer application. The XFile FileManager ActiveX control, which is included with XFile, contains multiple stack buffer overflow vulnerabilities. The XFile FileManager ActiveX control is provided by the file SAFmgPws.dll. Vulnerable methods include BuildPath(), GetDriveName(), DriveExists(), and DeleteFile().II. ImpactBy convincing a user to view a specially crafted HTML document (e.g., a web page or an HTML email message or attachment), an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user. The attacker could also cause Internet Explorer (or the program using the WebBrowser control) to crash.III. SolutionApply an updateThis vulnerability addressed in SoftArtisans XFile 2.4.0. Please see the release notes for more details.

Instructions for disabling ActiveX in the Internet Zone can be found in the "Securing Your Web Browser" document. Systems Affected

47794 | SoftArtisans XFile FileManager ActiveX (SAFmgPws.dll) Multiple Method Overflows Multiple buffer overflows exist in XFile. The FileManager ActiveX control fails to validate data passed to the BuildPath, GetDriveName, DriveExists, and DeleteFile methods resulting in a stack overflow. With a specially crafted website, a context-dependent attacker can cause arbitrary code execution resulting in a loss of integrity. |
