A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives: - Ubuntu 17.10 - Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Summary: gcab could be made to crash or run programs if it opened a specially crafted file. Software Description: - gcab: Microsoft Cabinet file manipulation tool Details: Richard Hughes discovered that gcab incorrectly handled certain malformed cabinet files. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted cabinet file, a remote attacker could use this issue to cause gcab to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.
