Detail

A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases:

Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog) Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog) Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger)

The following packages are affected:

unzip

The problem can be corrected by upgrading the affected package to version 5.51-2ubuntu0.4 (for Ubuntu 4.10), 5.51-2ubuntu1.4 (for Ubuntu 5.04), or 5.52-3ubuntu2.2 (for Ubuntu 5.10). In general, a standard system upgrade is sufficient to effect the necessary changes.

Details follow:

USN-248-1 fixed a vulnerability in unzip. However, that update inadvertedly changed the field order in the contents listing output, which broke unzip frontends like file-roller. The updated packages fix this regression.

Title: Buffer overflow in UnZip 5.50 and earlier allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long filename command line argument. NOTE: since the overflow occurs in a non-setuid program, there are not many scenarios under which it poses a vulnerability, unless unzip is passed long arguments when it is invoked from other programs.
