Detail

Revision Note: V3.0 (August 25, 2009): Added an entry to the section, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Related to This Security Update to communicate the rerelease of the Japanese-language update for Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 3, and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2. Customers who require the Japanese-language update need to install the rereleased update. No other updates or locales are affected by this rerelease.Summary: This security update resolves two privately reported vulnerabilities in a Microsoft Windows component, the Embedded OpenType (EOT) Font Engine. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution. An attacker who successfully exploited either of these vulnerabilities could take complete control of an affected system remotely. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
