Detail
Problem Description: An updated python-backports-ssl_match_hostname package that fixes one security issue is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 4.0. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having Low security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available from the CVE link in the References section. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 4.0 - noarch 3. Description: The python-backports-ssl_match_hostname package provides RFC 6125 compliant wildcard matching. A denial of service flaw was found in the way Python's SSL module implementation performed matching of certain certificate names. A remote attacker able to obtain a valid certificate that contained multiple wildcard characters could use this flaw to issue a request to validate such a certificate, resulting in excessive consumption of CPU. (CVE-2013-2099) This issue was discovered by Florian Weimer of Red Hat Product Security. All python-backports-ssl_match_hostname users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which contains a backported patch to correct this issue. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 5. Bugs fixed (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/): 963260 - CVE-2013-2099 python: ssl.match_hostname() DoS via certificates with specially crafted hostname wildcard patterns |
