Detail
Revision Note: V2.0 (October 18, 2010): Corrected the bulletin text to clarify that the vulnerability can be exploited on affected systems that are configured to receive SSL network traffic. This is an informational change only. Customers who have already successfully updated their systems, including customers with automatic updating enabled, do not need to take any action. Customers who have not installed this update previously may need to reassess whether their systems require this update based on the vulnerability information as revised.Summary: This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in the Secure Channel (SChannel) security package in Windows. The vulnerability could allow denial of service if an affected system received a specially crafted packet message via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). By default, all supported editions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 are not configured to receive SSL network traffic. |

Title: | TLSv1 Denial of Service Vulnerability
Description: | The Secure Channel (aka SChannel) security package in Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 and SP2, Windows Server 2008 Gold, SP2, and R2, and Windows 7, when IIS 7.x is used, does not properly process client certificates during SSL and TLS handshakes, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (LSASS outage and reboot) via a crafted packet, aka "TLSv1 Denial of Service Vulnerability."

68560 | Microsoft Windows SChannel TLSv1 Crafted Client Certificate Request DoS Microsoft Windows contains a flaw that may allow denial of service. The issue is caused due to the Secure Channel (SChannel) security package failing to check a logical condition when parsing client certificates. This can be exploited to cause the LSASS service to stop responding and restart the system via a specially crafted client certificate request to an affected IIS server hosting a SSL-enabled web site |
