Detail
Stefan Nordhausen has identified a local security hole in net-acct, a user-mode IP accounting daemon. Old and redundant code from some time way back in the past created a temporary file in an insecure fashion. For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in version 0.71-5woody1. For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem has been fixed in version 0.71-7. We recommend that you upgrade your net-acct package. |

9750 | Net-Acct Insecure Temporary File Creation Net-Acct contains a flaw that may allow a local malicious user to perform a symlink attack using a temporary file (/tmp/nacctd.write.[pid]) created with the rite_list and dump_curr_list functions. The issue is triggered when a local malicious user creates a specially crafted temporary file and creates a symlink to an arbitrary file. It is possible that the flaw may allow arbitrary code execution resulting in a loss of integrity. |
